News Release - City R-Centers, Libraries Closed Wednesday

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, March 14, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced that due to the continued heavy snowfall all City of Rochester R-Centers, with the exception of the David F. Gantt location, will remain closed tomorrow, along with the City branch libraries, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ice Rink and the Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink.

The David F. Gantt R-Center at 700 North Street will continue to operate as a temporary emergency shelter for residents without heat until further notice, as part of the City's Heat Sweep Program in partnership with the American Red Cross of Greater Rochester.

While serving as an emergency shelter, The Gantt R-Center will be open 24 hours a day and provide cots, showers and hot meals courtesy of Foodlink. It is suggested that those who need to sleep at the shelter bring a pillow.

In addition, Mayor Warren asks that residents avoid shoveling snow into the street or sidewalk, and abide by the alternate side parking restrictions. Just one car parked on the wrong side of the street can keep the entire area from being fully plowed.
