News Release - City Council Announces Review Process for 2017-18 City Budget

Rochester City Council

News Release

For Immediate Release:
May 19, 2017

Councilmember Carolee A. Conklin, Chair of City Council’s Finance Committee, announced today that the Council has scheduled its review process for the Mayor’s proposed 2017-18 City Budget. The City Council conducts the most extensive public analysis of any local municipal budget, convening a process that consists of individual departmental review sessions and a public hearing before the final budget votes are cast.

This marks the 10th year that the Council’s budget hearings will be broadcast live on City 12, the City’s cable access channel. Broadcasting the hearings provides interested City residents and business owners an opportunity to watch the Council’s in-depth review of the Mayor’s proposed spending plan. Additionally, the budget hearings will be streamed live on the City’s website at www.cityofrochester.gov. All budget hearings are held in the Council Chambers and are open to the public.

Constituents will also have an opportunity to offer comments about the proposed budgets for the City and the City School District at a public hearing to be held by the City Council and the Board of Education on Wednesday, June 14th at 5:30pm in the City Council Chambers. The Council is expected to vote on both of these proposed spending plans at its June 20th meeting.

Copies of the proposed budget are available for review online (cityofrochester.gov), in City Public Libraries, and at City Hall. The public is encouraged to call the Council Office at (585) 428-7538 if they have questions about the review process.

In addition to Councilmember Conklin, the Finance Committee is comprised of Councilmembers Adam C. McFadden and Molly Clifford; President Loretta C. Scott and Vice President Dana K. Miller serve as ex-officio members.
