News Release - ROC THE PARK Music Festival Kicks off Saturday with Latino Music Night

(Thursday, July 6, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren, Carlton Wilcox Live and the Rochester Hispanic Heritage Committee invite the community to “Latino Music Night,” the first of three family-friendly ROC THE PARK Music Festival events to be held this Saturday, July 8 at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 353 Court St. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Latino Music Night: Nuestros Tesoros Musicales (Our Musical Treasures), features local Latin artists: Trio Los Arpegio; Mambo Kings; La Muralla; Next Level and headliner Orquesta Antonetti. The Orquesta Antonetti group boasts traditional Latin music sound through its percussion instruments, while incorporating a jazz flare through its multiple horn instruments.

“ROC THE PARK is yet another summer event in Downtown that families can enjoy,” said Mayor Warren. “Latino Music Night is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, as will the two upcoming concerts featuring tributes to R&B, Motown and soul. Everyone should come out to enjoy the music, dance and have a great time. These special events bolster our efforts to create more jobs, safer, more vibrant neighborhoods and ultimately better educational opportunities for our children.”

Now in its fourth year, ROC THE PARK Music Festival features the finest local and regional talent over three days this summer. Remaining ROC THE PARK Music Festival events are as follows:

• Friday, Aug. 11: “ROC Rhythm & Groove R&B” will be a neo soul, funk and R&B concert with: Blake Montel (local R&B); London & Tra Graham (local R&B); Joy Little & Jeames Graham (Whitney Houston dedication); Shawn Powell (local R&B) and headliner Doobie Powell (R&B/neo soul). Powell is an artist and producer who has worked with Kelly Price, BSLADE, Harry Connick Jr., Raphael Saadiq and more and has released three independent albums as the founder of Chip Off The Block Productions, LLC. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m.

• Saturday, Sept. 2: “Motown & Soul Tribute” celebrates old school funk and Motown favorites with Will Holton (smooth jazz saxophonist), R&B classics live with INNERVISIONS (a Stevie Wonder tribute band) and Thomas Rhyant (Sam Cook tribute). The ROC City All Stars will play a special tribute to the late WDKX Radio host Tony Boler and Chaz Bruce will headline the event with a tribute to James Brown. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m.

General admission tickets are $6 and may be purchased (cash only) at the gate located at the corner of Court and Chestnut Streets until 9:30 p.m. for each event. Kids ages 12 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Blue Cross Arena Box Office (no surcharge), 100 Exchange Blvd., or online at www.Ticketmaster.com (with surcharge). VIP tickets, which include admission and dinner, may be purchased at the gate (cash only) for $20.

Guests may bring chairs and one sealed bottle of water per person. Smoking is not permitted in the park. Pets, skateboards, bicycles, in-line skates and drones are not allowed within the festival site.
