News Release - Mayor Lovely Warren Announces New Round of Owner- Roofing Grants for Senior Citizens

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, Aug. 28, 2017) – Mayor Lovely Warren has announced that pre-applications for financial assistance for the next phase of the City’s Owner-Occupant Roofing Program opens today, Aug. 28 and closes on Sept. 28. During this phase, the City will only accept pre-applications from senior citizen owner-occupants age 62 and over who have not previously filed a pre-application. Residents may inquire with their Neighborhood Service Center to find out if they are currently on the list of applicants. Grant awards cover the cost of roof replacement and other related repairs such as gutters, downspouts, roof flashing and minor chimney repair.

“Roof repairs can be a significant financial burden for some homeowners, and, if left in disrepair, roof problems can cause further damage to a home,” said Mayor Warren. “Our Owner-Occupant Roofing Program brings help to those who need it, creating safer and more livable homes for our residents while improving our neighborhoods.”

A limited number of homeowners will be chosen from among applicants in each quadrant of the city during a drawing scheduled for noon on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave. Applicants do not need to be present at the drawing. Selected residents will be notified.

To be eligible for a pre-application, property owners must be a senior citizen and own a single-family, residential property located in the city of Rochester. City and County property taxes must be current and the property cannot be subject to a mortgage or tax foreclosure. Property owners cannot have received assistance greater than $5,000 through a City-funded housing rehabilitation program in the past seven years. Homeowners must also live at the property for three years after receiving assistance.

Pre-applications must be filed in person. For more information, residents can call their nearest Neighborhood Service Center or visit the City’s website at cityofrochester.gov/roofrelief.
