News Release
(Monday, Sept. 4, 2017) – Rochester’s workers are and
always have been this city’s greatest asset. As our economy has transitioned
from one industrial sector to the next, from flour to flower, from
manufacturing to innovation, Rochester’s labor force has embraced each new
change with a spirit of determination and ingenuity that has encouraged new
investment and attracted job creators. Our workforce helped Rochester navigate
the economic downturns of the last century; our workforce, and the organized
labor movement, is placing Rochester at the leading edge of progress in this
century.
As we celebrate the Labor Day holiday this year, I would
like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for our workers and their work ethic.
They have laid the foundation upon which this city is built, which makes it
possible for us to advance our efforts to create more jobs, safer, more vibrant
neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for all of our citizens.
