(Friday, Nov. 3, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City is launching its second round of training for the Rochester Environmental Job Training Program (REJob) to help disadvantaged citizens get jobs in the environmental construction industry.
“The REJob Training Program creates an opportunity to make sure the citizens who live in those neighborhoods are among the first to benefit from these investments,” said Mayor Warren. “Giving our citizens an opportunity to earn a living while cleaning contaminated properties in their own neighborhoods will greatly enhance our efforts to create more jobs, safer more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities in our schools.”
The REJob Training Program recruits unemployed or underemployed city residents and provided theme with the training to earn the required certification to work in the asbestos abatement, hazardous waste remediation, and environmental cleanup fields. The program will also place successful students in full-time employment.
The City launched the program in 2016 and an inaugural class of 29 students graduated in March. All of the graduates found jobs in the construction industry.
The next eight-week class will run from Jan. 22 to March 16, 2018.
This program is being funded through an Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grant (EWDJT) from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
The City Department of Environmental Services (DES) will host four informational sessions for prospective students in the month of November. All meetings will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on the following dates:
• Nov. 6: Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.
• Nov. 8: Adams Street R-Center, 85 Adams St.
• Nov. 13: Flint Street R-Center, 271 Flint St.
• Nov. 15: Carter Street R-Center, 500 Carter St.
