June 19 Proclaimed Juneteenth

Whereas:  As we celebrate Juneteenth, Monroe County and the City of Rochester ask all residents to imagine that moment of jubilation on June 19, 1865 when the enslaved learned that they were “free at last, free at last,” from horrendous bondage that ensnared themselves and their ancestors for more than four centuries. Vicariously experiencing this emotional moment in time speaks fully of the Juneteenth story.

NOW, THEREFORE, we, Malik D. Evans, Mayor of the City of Rochester, New York and Adam J. Bello, Monroe County Executive, do hereby proclaim June 19, 2022 to be: JUNETEENTH
