News Release - Statement from City Councilmember LaShay D. Harris on the Murder of Officer Mazurkiewicz

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, July 22, 2022) – “Over the past 203 days, the City of Rochester has experienced a surge of violence and yesterday two members of our police department were shot along with an innocent bystander. Tragically one officer lost his life and, as we see more and more frequently, bystanders also pay the price for this wanton disregard of human life.

As a member of the public safety family myself, I want to offer my support to the families of Rochester Police Officers Tony Mazurkiewicz, who died while in service to our community, and Officer Sino Seng, who was wounded in service. To the men and women of law enforcement, thank you for your continued dedication and professionalism while you work through the loss of your fallen comrade.

The cries of families who are victims of the violence need to be heard and my thoughts and support go out to every family that has experienced this or who has lost a loved one to the violence in our City.
I urge everyone in Rochester to unite in peace to STOP THE VIOLENCE. If you see something, say something because no one is immune to this public health crisis and we cannot get justice for victims without everyone’s help.”
