News Release - City Seeks Feedback on Electric Carshare Program

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, April 5, 2023) – Mayor Malik D. Evans announced today that the City is seeking community feedback to expand the Floshare electric-vehicle carsharing pilot program by April 30.

“A robust and affordable electric-vehicle carsharing program can go a long way toward reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and closing the transportation gap for residents who don’t own a vehicle or occasionally need another one,” said Mayor Evans. “Achieving the goals of environmental sustainability and economic empowerment in a single program demonstrates how we are becoming a safe, equitable, and prosperous Rochester.”

Floshare offers residents and visitors affordable access to electric vehicles that can be rented on an hourly or daily basis via a smartphone app or a website. The program is supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

The City launched the Floshare pilot in July with three initial sites and is seeking input to determine priority locations for new vehicles as well as policies to improve service delivery. Anyone can take the short survey, whether they have used the service or not. The survey should take about 10 minutes and those who complete it will receive a $10 FloShare driving credit (2 hours). This survey will close April 30.

Since its launch, 110 drivers have rented Floshare cars more than 1,000 times to drive more than 60,000 miles over more than 13,000 hours.

The low-cost car sharing service provides car rentals on an hourly basis. Cars can be reserved from one hour up to full days. Costs start at $5 per hour and cars are picked up and returned to the same locations. Current Floshare locations are:

  • The City of Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St.
  • St. Mary’s Campus Garage, 55 Genesee St.
  • Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex parking lot, 131 Elmwood Ave.
