(Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023) – Applications open today for the next cohort of Rochester Community University. The program helps city residents learn how to advocate for themselves and their neighborhoods. 

“I encourage residents to register for Rochester Community University and learn about resources and the art of advocacy to champion positive change for themselves and their neighbors,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “Civic discourse is critical to building a stronger, more vibrant community; we all have a role to play in creating a city of hope where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.” 

Administered by the City’s Neighborhood Service Centers in partnership with the Bureau of Planning, Rochester Community University allows participants to develop and refine their civic-engagement skills and learn about City resources. Topic areas include City Codes and Zoning Decoded; City Governance 101; A behind the scenes trip to the 311 Call Center and more.  

The program’s sessions take place from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 11 to Feb. 8, and are conducted via Zoom or in-person dependent on topic.
