Athletic Programs (Organized and Open)

The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues at R-Centers.  Many R-Centers and Community Centers offer both organized and open sports for youth and adults. Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults:

NFL Flag Football Tournament (Youth only): The City will host a flag football tournament this fall. 

Ice and Floor Hockey: Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey will be played at select R-Centers in the winter.

Rochester City Soccer League: Rochester City Soccer School offers top-notch training programs tailored specifically for the soccer players who want to develop their skills in the off-season.  Rochester City Soccer offers recreation players (U 5-23) an opportunity to receive additional training from the professional technical staff to complement their regularly scheduled team practices and games.  Sessions are divided up by age groups.  Contact Nicole Hercules at 305-1136 or Don Corey 428-7592 for more information.

RocSoftball:  (Adult)  plays at Cobbs Hill Park. Softball leagues are hugely popular in the City! Summer Leagues offered for Men's and Co-Ed Leagues.  All Leagues have 3 distinct level of play offered; Competitive("A"), Recreational("B") and Social("C").  

 Men's and Co-Ed League Offerings-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

- 6 games regular season followed by playoffs.

- League Fee for Fall Season $525

- USSSA Umpire/Rules of play and USSSA new stamp bats.

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to participate  in a local competition. 

Learn to Swim Lessons:  The Learn to Swim (Fall/Winter/Spring) offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-17, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advance. Learn to Swim Class Locations:  Adams St. Pool and Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center Pool (Formerly Baden Pool. 

Swim Team- Rapids: The Rochester Rapids Swim Team is committed to developing a culture of life-long involvement in swimming by providing youth in and around the City of Rochester the finest opportunities for competition and community involvement through the sport of swimming.  Click here for more information on dates and locations or contact www.teamunified.com  

 Baby and Me Swim LessonsParents or Guardians introduce their children to the water while learning how to teach them how to swim and learn about water safety.  One adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Sessions are six weeks. Class size are limited and are free.   

Adult Swim Lessons:  Adults ages 18 and over are being offered swim lessons for $24.00.  Swim Lessons sessions are from 7:15-8 p.m. on Wednesday Nights and are offered at both Adams and Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center Pools. Class size are limited and there are no classes on December 29th,2021 and February 23rd,2022.

Tennis Lessons (Adult only).  Outdoor tennis lessons are offered in season in Rochester’s fabulous parks.    For more information, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/tennislessons.  

Youth Tennis Lessons Love-15 is a FREE Tennis Camp for Rochester City youth ages 7-17. The program is designed to teach skills, etiquette, life skills, and positive values. Offered at Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center.  

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will be at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.
