operates the 911 Call Center and ensures that emergency help arrives when seconds matter. The 911 Center is certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and is accredited by the NYS Sheriff's Association and the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch. The 911 Center is accredited as a National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch "Center Of Excellence." In 2007, the center was recognized as the 911 Center of the Year by the Emergency-911 Institute in Washington D.C.

has over 500 uniformed and non-uniformed members who strive to save lives and property. While the core mission is to prevent and fight fires, the Department perform many other functions, including vehicle extrication, medical emergencies, high-level rescue, hazardous materials incidents, structural collapse, swift water rescue and many more emergency operations. The Department also offers prevention and community education services, including smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector distribution and installation.

Under Mayor Lovely A. Warren's direction, the Rochester Police Department has launched a new neighborhood-based, five-section patrol model that returns Officers to a neighborhood beat structure so they can engage in true community policing activities.

Increasing safety in neighborhoods is not just a law enforcement role. It also involves concerned citizens who feel empowered to work effectively with the police in crime prevention. Police and Citizens Together Against Crime (PAC-TAC) pairs citizen volunteers with on-duty officers to walk in their neighborhoods and interact with citizens and local merchants to help prevent crime. All PAC-TAC volunteers receive training and are issued distinctive clothing, a flashlight and a portable digital radio with all of the frequencies that officers use. Big things often start in small ways - like the smile of an innocent child. Now you can help bring those smiles to places where they're needed most. Give a bear hug or a quiet moment of reading to our youngest residents by donating new books or stuffed Teddy bears to the Rochester Police Department. These small gifts will then be offered to small children who experience or witness domestic violence or some other traumatic event. The goal of the Do The Right Thing program is to foster positive relationships between the Rochester Police Department, as well as other local police agencies and the youth of Monroe County. The Do The Right Thing Award program recognizes youth for positive behavior, accomplishments and good deeds by distinguishing school-age children who strive to make good choices, do well in school, give back to their communities or demonstrate “turn-around” behavior. All students in grades K-12 that are enrolled in any Monroe County school are eligible for nomination. is designed to facilitate public education and fire prevention activities, including working with public and private organizations, community groups, schools, churches, businesses, festival organizers and citizens. Community outreach activities include giving presentations, sharing literature, interactive teaching ( i.e. Fire Safety House) and other activities involving fire safety education

The Rochester Fire Department informs people about necessary fire survival skills such as installation of smoke detectors, practicing escape plans, juvenile fire setter awareness and the proper use and maintenance of mechanical equipment.

Crime Stoppers encourages people to call the Police Department with information to solve ANY crimes already committed or those about to occur. Rewards are available to callers if the information they supply results in an arrest and conviction of a criminal.
