Athletic Programs (Organized and Open)

The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues at R-Centers.  Many R-Centers and Community Centers offer both organized and open sports for youth and adults. For more information, call or visit the R-Center of your choice. Go to for a list.

Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults:  

Baseball: The City hosts adult baseball leagues and will begin play May 26, 2021.  For more information and registration instructions, call Nicholas D'Ambrosio  737-6872 or email:   or Athletics and Aquatics Coordinator Michael Corey at 428-7564.

NFL Flag Football Tournament (Youth only): The City will host a flag football tournament this fall.  Stay tuned for more information, or call Don Corey at 428-7592.

Ice and Floor Hockey: Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey will be played at select R-Centers in the winter of 2021.  For more information about Ice Hockey, call 428-7564 or visit Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. For more information about Floor Hockey, contact your preferred R-Center to learn if that Center is fielding a team. 

Rochester City Soccer League: Rochester City Soccer School offers top-notch training programs tailored specifically for the soccer players who want to develop their skills in the off-season.  Rochester City Soccer offers recreation players (U 5-23) an opportunity to receive additional training from the professional technical staff to complement their regularly scheduled team practices and games.  Sessions are divided up by age groups.  Contact Nicole Hercules at 305-1136 or Don Corey 428-7592 for more information.

RocSoftball:  (Adult)  plays at Cobbs Hill Park. Softball leagues are hugely popular in the City!  2020 Summer Leagues offered for Men's and Co-Ed Leagues.  All Leagues have 3 distinct level of play offered; Competitive("A"), Recreational("B") and Social("C").  (Fall Season Begins September  7th, 2021)   

 Men's and Co-Ed League Offerings-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

- 6 games regular season followed by playoffs.

- League Fee for Fall Season $525

- USSSA Umpire/Rules of play and USSSA new stamp bats.

 RocSports (Adult):  Men's Basketball League Played at Ryan R-Center Tuesday and Thursday nights in Winter 2021-22.  For more information call: 278-0654 or email: 

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to participate  in a local competition. Competition will be in October 2021 at 5 p.m. at Rochester Community Sports Complex (at the downtown stadium) For more information, call Don Corey at 428-7592. 

Learn to Swim Lessons:  The Learn to Swim (Fall/Winter/Spring) offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-17, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advanced. For more information or to register go to,   Learn to Swim Classes will restart Friday October  1st or Saturday October 2nd,2021. 

Fall Session:         October 1st/2nd thru November 19th/20th,2021.

Winter Session:  December 3rd/4th thru February 4th/5th,2022.

Friday Night Class Sign-Ups 

Level 1 and 3 will be held at 5-5:30 p.m.

Level 2 and 4 will be held at 5:30-6 p.m.

Level 5 and 6 will be held at 6-6:30 p.m.

Saturday Morning Class Sign-Ups:

 Level 1 and 3 will be held at 10:15-10:45 a.m. 

Level 2 and 4 will be held at 10:45-11:15 a.m.

Level 5 and 6 will be held at 11:15-11:45 a.m.

Swim Team- Rapids:  Practices will resume beginning Monday September 20th,2021.  The Rochester Rapids Swim Team is committed to developing a culture of life-long involvement in swimming by providing youth in and around the City of Rochester the finest opportunities for competition and community involvement through the sport of swimming.  Click here for more information on dates and locations or contact  

 Baby and Me Swim LessonsParents or Guardians introduce their children to the water while learning how to teach them how to swim and learn about water safety.  One adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Sessions are six weeks.   

Fall Session:         October 2nd-November 6th,2021.

Winter Session:  December 4th thru January 22nd,2022.

Spring Season:    February 5th thru March 19th,2022.

There will be no class on December 25th,2021 and January 1st and February 26th,2022 due to Holidays.  Class size are limited and are free.   Call 428-7456 for more information.

Adult Swim Lessons:  Adults ages 18 and over are being offered swim lessons for $24.00.  Swim Lessons sessions are from 7:15-8 p.m. on Wednesday Nights and are at both Adams and Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center Pools;

Fall Session:        October 13th thru November 17th,2021.

Winter Session:  December 1st thru January 12th,2022.

Spring Session:   February 2nd thru March 16th,2022.

Class size are limited and there are no classes on December 29th,2021 and February 23rd,2022.

Tennis Lessons (Adult only).  Outdoor tennis lessons are offered in season in Rochester’s fabulous parks.    For more information, visit  4th Session begins August 23rd thru September 20th for Advanced and beginners.  Intermediate begins September 11th thru October 3rd,2021.

Youth Tennis Lessons
Love-15 is a FREE Tennis Camp for Rochester City youth ages 7-17. The program is designed to teach skills, etiquette, life skills, and positive values.   Location Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center.  Start Date TBD.

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will be at the Thomas P. Rochester Community & Youth Sports Complex


The property at 460 Oak Street is now operated by the Department of Recreation & Youth Services as a youth sports leagues and community organizations will utilize the facility for year-round sports training.  The complex opened in spring 2019 with a variety of Sports Clinics such as lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, conditioning and much more!  For more information about the Rochester Community Sports Complex and program schedule please call (585) 428-6841.
