Our Foster Care Program was established to extend the walls of the shelter during periods of high intake and to better serve special needs animals. Traditional fosterlings may include a litter of un-weaned kittens who need round-the-clock attention, an adult cat with an upper respiratory infection, a dog with an injury, or an animal that simply does not do well in a shelter environment.
Fostering can extend holding periods, increase the likelihood of adoption, aid in healing and recovery from injury or illness, and improve socialization between animals and people. Additionally, fostering a special needs animal is a wonderfully rewarding way to assist Animal Services with the many challenges the organization faces daily.
Serving as a foster home for a pet can last anywhere between one week to several months. Rochester Animal Services will provide all food, supplies and veterinary care. All you provide is a loving home!
Support our partners
Another way to help homeless animals is to support the other animal shelters and animal rescue organizations in our area. Contact or visit our transfer partners to learn about other animals in foster care with them and awaiting forever homes.
