News Release

(Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022) – Mayor Evans announced today the release of “Rochester 2034 Moving Forward,” a progress report on the City’s comprehensive plan that shows work has begun on more than a quarter of the Plan’s projects, programs, and initiatives since it was adopted in 2019.

“The tremendous progress of Rochester 2034 is a testament to the community input that was incorporated into its development and now plays significant role in its implementation,” said Mayor Evans. “This is an ambitious plan that requires coordination with many diverse community partners to implement. When we celebrate our city’s 200th birthday, we should look back with incredible pride for all that we accomplished together.”

Adopted in 2019, Rochester 2034 Comprehensive Plan is a 15-year plan that lays out 88 goals and 517 strategies to establish a vibrant, thriving, and healthy community upon celebration of the City’s 200th birthday in 2034.

Strategies that are at various stages of progress include:

  • Revising the City’s Zoning Code and Map to reflect the vision of Rochester 2034;
  • Promoting key City-owned properties for redevelopment;
  • Developing the Roc City Skatepark as part of the ROC the Riverway initiative;
  • Establishing a Housing Trust Fund to help prevent displacement and promote equitable housing opportunities;
  • Dedicating a percentage of all capital project budgets to public art throughout the community;
  • Developing a Nature Center in Maplewood Park;
  • Implementing a Community Choice Aggregation Model, called Rochester Community Power, to offer cleaner electricity at competitive rates for residents; and
  • Advancing plans to remove the Inner Loop North.
