News Release - City Motorists Advised to Observe Parking Regulations as Winter Storm Approaches

City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013) – City Environmental Service crews are preparing for the 8 to 12 inches of snowfall expected for tonight and tomorrow as a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Monroe County by the National Weather Service. According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow will fall beginning overnight tonight through Friday night, with the worst conditions expected late Friday morning through Friday evening. During this period, visibility will be one-half mile or less and the snow will result in difficult travel and hazardous driving conditions.

City crews and plowing contractors will be working around the clock to promote safe travel on city streets and sidewalks. Snow removal efforts include snow plowing and, when necessary in congested areas, snow removal by loading and hauling snow away. Motorists are advised to strictly observe alternate, side and other posted parking regulations to facilitate snow and clean up efforts. Snowbound vehicles will hamper snow removal efforts. City Code requires that vehicles parked at curbside be moved at least every 12 hours.

Plowing contractors are reminded that it is illegal to push snow from private property into public sidewalks and streets. City crews plow major and minor arterial streets. Privately-owned plows that contract with the City clear snow from residential streets.

More information on winter and snow parking rules can be found on the City’s website at www.cityofrochester.gov/snowparkingrules. For more information on City snow plowing and salting efforts, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/snowplowing.
