News Release
(Friday, June 18, 2010) – The Genesee Valley Park Pool at 131 Elmwood Ave. will open for the 2010 season Sunday, June 20. Also, five high schools pools will be open for summer swimming on June 28. This pool’s summer programming and schedule is as follows:
Free Summer Swim Academy:
• Ages 6 – 18 (registration required, limited space, call 428-7888)
• Session 1: July 7 – 24 (register by June 30)
• Session 2: July 28 – Aug. 21 (register by July 25)
• Classes are 30 minutes long and take place in sessions between 9 and 11:45 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Parent and Child Swim:
• Ages 5 and under FREE
• Monday through Friday noon – 1 p.m.; every day 5 – 6 p.m.
• One child under six with a parent; flotation devices allowed for this swim only.
Open Pool is Monday through Friday at noon for the following activities:
• Adult Laps
Monday through Friday noon – 1 p.m.
Every day 5 – 6 p.m., (and until 8:30 p.m. if lane is available except Wed.).
• Family Swim
Wednesday; 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Adults $2, Children 14 and under swim FREE
Shallow end only, Adults must accompany children.
• Open Swim
Ages 18 and over/$2, ages 6 – 17/$1
Monday through Friday 1 – 4:45 p.m.
Mon., Tues., Thurs., Friday 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 6 – 8:30 p.m.
*Number of people in the pool at one time may be limited due to state health codes.
• Water Polo
Monday 8:45 – 10:15 p.m., ages 16 and over
• Introduction to Kayaking (All ages)
Wednesday 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (Call 328-3960 for information, advanced registration required.).

HIGH SCHOOL POOLS
In addition to the Genesee Valley Park Pool, the following five city High School Pools will also be open for summer swimming:
• Benjamin Franklin High School 950 Norton St., #13 Entrance
• Douglass Preparatory High School 940 Fernwood Park, Tennis Court Side Entrance
• James Monroe High School 164 Alexander St., Pear St. Entrance
• John Marshall High School 180 Ridgeway Ave., Avis Entrance
• Wilson Foundation Academy at Madison 200 Genesee St., McCree Way Entrance
Summer swim programming and schedules for these pools:
Free Summer Swim Lessons: Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – noon (Advance registration required, call 428-7888.)
Adult Laps: Monday through Friday, noon – 1 p.m.
Parent and Child Swim: Monday through Friday noon – 1 p.m. (one Adult must accompany each child under six years old; Flotation devices are allowed.)
Open Swim Sessions: Monday through Friday 1 – 4:00 p.m.
Group Usage Available, selected Fridays 9:30 a.m. – noon. Call 428-7888 for more information.
