Incorrect Fee of $2 Was Published For Jazz Festival

(Friday, June 22, 2012) – The City of Rochester today announced that the standard $5 special events parking fee at the East End Garage will remain in effect throughout the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. The City erroneously indicated that the special event fee would be reduced to $2 for the festival, and the reduced rate has been published in various websites, newspapers and other Jazz Festival literature.

The City mistakenly published last year’s $2 special event rate. This rate at the garage was increased to $5 in August 2011.

The East End Garage is owned and operated by the Cultural Center Commission and not the City. Therefore, it does not follow the City’s downtown parking garage rate structure. The Cultural Center Commission is a 13-member board appointed by the Rochester City Council and the Monroe County Legislature. It was formed in 1979 to revitalize the area around the Eastman Theatre. As the owner, the Commission sets the garage rates and will be charging the $5 rate throughout the festival. The Cultural Center Commission sub-contracts with Allpro Parking, LLC to manage the garage’s operations.

The East End Garage provides public parking for up to 1,282 vehicles and is located at 475 E. Main St. with entrances on E. Main St., Scio St. and Swan St.

The City apologizes for providing the incorrect rate to Jazz Festival organizers and for any inconvenience this has caused.

Signs indicating the $5 special event fee will be posted at the entrances of the East End Garage during festival hours.
