News Release

(Monday, October 20, 2014) – A water main break that closed part of Mt. Hope Avenue Sunday night and Monday morning has been repaired and the all driving lanes of the road will be open for the Monday evening and Tuesday morning rush hours. Crews will continue to repair the road during non-peak hours Monday and Tuesday, limiting traffic to one lane in each direction. They expect to complete the project before Tuesday evening’s rush hour.

A rupture in the 12-inch water main was reported shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday between Comfort Street and South Avenue. The water was turned off within 90 minutes, which minimized water damage to nearby properties. The main was repaired by 4 a.m. and one driving lane in each direction was open for the Monday morning commute. Crews began repairing the road after the rush hour and were able to keep one lane open in each direction. Work will cease during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning rush hours, which will allow all driving lanes in each direction to be open.
