News Release - Cobbs Hill Reservoir Re-Opens

City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, January 15, 2015) – Cobbs Hill Reservoir has re-opened and is once again providing drinking water to residents. The reservoir was drained last June, for capital improvements to help preserve the 106-year-old reservoir, originally constructed in 1908. The reservoir receives its water from Hemlock and Canadice Lakes, located approximately 30 miles south of Cobbs Hill.

During the construction project, customers were largely unaffected.

“We were able to bypass the reservoir and utilize the Highland Park Reservoir to meet the city’s water demands,” City Water Director Robert Morrison said. “There are many redundancies designed into our historic water supply system. The quality of our water and the caliber of Rochester’s water distribution system is a true testament to the engineers who constructed it and the dedicated staff who maintain and improve it.”
