News Release - City to Hold Open Registration and Information Sessions for T.H.R.I.V.E. Program

(Monday, September 8, 2014) – Mayor Lovely Warren invites parents and guardians of youth ages 11 to 14 to attend orientation events across the city to learn about and register for the T.H.R.I.V.E (Teens Helping to Reinvent Identity, Values and Empowerment) program.

“Reaching our youth in their teen years is critical,” said Mayor Warren. “This program is an opportunity for them to learn the value of making good choices. The T.H.R.I.V.E program provides a safe and nurturing environment for teens to grow.”

The T.H.R.I.V.E program provides youth with support and opportunities to help them prepare for successful adulthood. T.H.R.I.V.E is a youth-driven after school program offered at 11 City community centers, where youth discussions are lead by trained and certified facilitators.

Topics include goal setting, making healthy choices regarding relationships and school and life skills.

The orientation sessions are scheduled as follows: 

  • Wednesday, Sept. 10, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Avenue D Community Center, 200 Ave. D;
  • Thursday, Sept. 11, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Flint Street Community Center, 271 Flint St.;
  • Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 to 6 p.m., David F. Gantt Community Center, 700 North St. 
  • Thursday, Sept. 11, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Adams Street Community Center, 85 Adams St.; 
  • Friday, Sept. 12, 5 to 6 p.m., South Avenue Community Center, 999 South Ave.; 
  • Tuesday, Sept. 16, 5 to 6 p.m., School #42 Community Center, 3330 Lake Ave.; 
  • Wednesday, Sept. 17, 5 to 6 p.m., School #46 Community Center, 250 Newcastle Rd.;
  • Thursday, Sept.18, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thomas P. Ryan Community Center, 530 Webster Ave.
