City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced that the City of Rochester is partnering with the del Lago Resort & Casino and vRide Inc. to help city residents obtain good-paying jobs at the Seneca County gaming facility by using the City’s new Vanpool Program.

“The partnership with del Lago Resort & Casino will make these jobs available to city residents who lack or have limited transportation,” said Mayor Warren. “These positions will provide an attractive wage to our citizens, many of whom may be living in poverty. We are grateful to del Lago Resort & Casino and vRide, Inc. for partnering with us in our efforts to bring more jobs, safer more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities to our citizens.”

“The foundation of a top-notch hotel and casino experience is always built with talented people, and the great City of Rochester has a large pool of ideal candidates,” said Jeff Babinski, executive vice president and general manager at del Lago Resort & Casino. “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Rochester and vRide to offer Greater Rochester residents convenient transportation to the many job opportunities we will have in our world-class resort and casino.”

The vanpool program will help connect Rochester-area job seekers to the many opportunities available at del Lago Resort & Casino, which will open its doors on Feb. 1, 2017.

To kick off the partnership and encourage applications, del Lago Resort & Casino is hosting a job fair from 3 to 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Rochester’s City Hall Council Chambers, 30 Church St. Room 302A. Available positions include cocktail servers, cooks, cashiers, dishwashers and facilities cleaning (environmental services). Non-tipped positions start at $12 per hour and increase based on experience.

In November, the City launched the Vanpool Pilot Program to increase employment accessibility for Rochester residents who don’t have a car or have limited transportation.

With the del Lago Resort & Casino partnership, the City hopes to encourage residents to apply for the many good-paying, long-term positions at the resort and casino without having to worry about transportation.

The Vanpool will consist of commuters who voluntarily participate in the rideshare arrangement.

The van will make one trip to del Lago Resort & Casino and one trip back to Rochester during the day. Vans will be driven by a volunteer who will also be commuting to work. vRide will provide the van, insurance, maintenance, a ride-matching platform and a designated fuel card for each group. Unlike traditional bus service or a shuttle service, vanpooling is unique because each route is tailored to suit the needs of a specific group of riders. vRide will provide a simple all-inclusive cost per van based on the vehicle type and estimated monthly mileage driven.

The city will subsidize the cost of this service to del Lago Resort & Casino users, with the monthly cost less than $75 each month per rider.
