Join Us for Our Annual Fundraiser2-dogs-in-pool  

Last year was one of our biggest and most successful events ever and we hope to grow our event even bigger this year. Mark your calendar for Saturday June 4, 2016 for The Fast & The Furriest®. Join us for our 10th Annual 10K, 5K, dog walk, and pet festival, which will again feature live music, food trucks, giveaways, vendors, pet contests, vaccination and microchip clinic, and a variety of activities for you, your family and your pets. Come out and help us celebrate our love of animals and our city. Check out the event program for the event map, schedule of activities, and sponsors.

The event is located at the Animal Services Center, 184 Verona Street, Rochester, NY 14608 and neighboring Brown Square Park. There is free parking (although donations are appreciated) in Kodak/Care Stream Lot D with access from Oak Street.

Special Features for 2016

  • Free Rabies and Distemper-Parvovirus vaccinations (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
  • Free microchip identification (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
  • Discounted pet adoptions ($10 cats and $20 dogs)

  • Dog play yard demonstration
  • Pet rescue groups on site

Note:  There will be road closures in the Brown Square Park Area and along the race routes. Be sure to review the road closures and, if necessary, take alternate routes into the parking area.

Fundraising

Runners and walkers are encouraged to fundraise individually or as a team. A team can be composed of runners, walkers, non-participant fundraisers or any combination thereof.

Can't make it to the event this year but want to help the shelter animals? Become an online fundraiser and be eligible to receive our great pledge-level prizes.

We encourage all fundraisers to use the online fundraising site to simplify the process and reduce costs; however, you can also use our pledge form. Please help Rochester Animal Services and the shelter animals by forming a team today.
                

Here's how to get started:

Designate one person as team captain

  • Create your team, if you are a runner you must first register as a runner
  • Designate one person as team captain
  • Recruit team members
  • Direct each member to register and select your team
  • Start gathering pledges online or by downloading a pledge form 
  • Make team t-shirts (optional)
  • Plan your strategy for leading the pack
  • Raise funds throughout the year to increase your impact
  • Consider bake sales, garage sales, bottle drives, third-party fundraisers, etc. to boost your team earnings
  • Have FUN and THANK YOU

Race Information10K-star-16t

Runners will have two NEW courses through the picturesque City of Rochester to choose from. Both courses are certified to be accurate by USA Track & Field (pending [10K] and pending [5K]). All runners are required to sign a waiver and release of liability because the event is sanctioned by USA Track & Field (USATF). The USATF waiver and release will be available for runners to sign at Fleet Feet Sports during race packet pick ups. If you wish to review the USATF waiver and release beforehand, you can download a copy.

Run Registration Fees, Times, and Awards

We encourage all runners to fundraise either individually or with a team for Rochester Animal Services and the shelter animals.

10K Race

  • $25 pre-event registration and $30 on event day
  • Start time is 8:00 a.m.
  • 10K Awards: Top 3 male and female finishers win $100, $75, $50 Fleet Feet Sports store vouchers; store vouchers for $15 to $40 also awarded to top 3 male and female finishers in each age group

5K Race

  • $20 pre-event registration and $25 on event day
  • Start time is 8:15 a.m.
  • 5K Awards: Top male and female finisher each receive a $50 Fleet Feet Sports store vouchers; medals will be awarded to top male and female finisher in each age group

Tech shirts for the first 300 registered runners 

Cotton shirts for runners who raise at least $50 

Registration and Packet Pick Up

Event day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. Avoid the lines by pre-registering online. Runners and walkers may pick up their packets and shirts at Fleet Feet Sports at The Armory on Friday June 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For runners not able to attend pre-event packet pick up, packets will also be available on event day at Race Registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. and Walk Registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday June 4.

Join us for a leisurely stroll of about 1 mile with or without you dog in support of Rochester Animal Services and the shelter animals. Register online now. Registration is $25 for adults and includes The Fast & The Furriest® T-shirt if you register before June 1st. Kids 10 and under are $5 (no shirt included). Simply register online or on-site the day of the event. Please note that all individuals must be registered to participate in the event. Walkers unable to register before event day can also register on Saturday June 4 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the event site.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each and every day volunteers make a world of difference for Rochester Animal Services. However, for this event we need even more help to make it fun and successful for everyone involved. We need everything from parking attendants to race marshals.

Getting to the Event

There will be several street closings along the race routes to ensure the safety of our participants. Some of those street closings may impact access to the event site and parking lot. Please review the driving directions to avoid any problems.
