ROC City Skatepark opened to the public on November 5, 2020. In January 2023, Mayor Malik D. Evans announced Rochester received a $3 million grant from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS) to advance the skatepark project through the next phase of the 2019 Master Plan. The plan will include an additional 20,000+ square feet of skate area, event space, and associated site improvements. The project is part of the larger ROC the Riverway Initiative.

On December 5th, 2024, the City conducted a public meeting revealing the final design for phase 2.
