City Adopts “Green” Resolution
On August 11, 2009, City Council unanimously approved the Climate and Environment Protection Resolution. The resolution acknowledges the many activities the City had already undertaken at the time of its approval and paves the way for additional projects and initiatives.
The City of Rochester was a local leader in sustainability initiatives in 2009, having already put in place:
- Commitment to the US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement
- Use of renewable energy sources
- Purchase of high fuel efficiency and alternative fuel vehicles
- Incorporation of US Green Building Council standards in appropriate City projects
- Participation in the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation Climate Smart Communities Program
Since then, the City's Green Team has become the Office of Energy and Sustainability (OES), and has completed the Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Action Plan called for in the resolution. Explore our City-wide energy and sustainability efforts on the OES web page.
