Aquatics: Swimming programs, pools, spray parks, beaches

The City offers a wide array of aquatic amenities and programs, including beaches, an Olympic-sized outdoor pool, several spray-play areas and year-round indoor pools. Programs include swim and boating lessons, organized water sports and parent-and-child events.

The Genesee Valley Sports Complex offers an Olympic-sized outdoor pool. 

June 24 - July 7

Open Swim

  • Mon - Fri: 10am - 12pm; 1pm - 4:45pm; 6pm - 8pm (1:00pm-4:45pm open swim time is free for Summer Camps and Non-Profit Organizations- Must show proof)
  • Sat & Sun: 12pm - 3:45pm (Open Swim free for everyone)

Adult Lap Swim 18+

  • Mon - Fri:  12pm - 1 pm & 5pm - 6pm (Only 12-1pm Lap Swim is free for Adults)
  • Sat & Sun: 4:00pm - 6:00pm (Paid session)

Summer Swim Lesson

The City of Rochester offers two summer sessions for Red Cross Levels 1-6

Session 1 July 8th-July 24th (FULL)

Session 2 July 29th - August 15th  (Online registrations opens July 15)

During their swim lessons, children will spend time on the following six levels:

  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
  • Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills.
  • Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.
  • Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.
  • Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.
  • Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances.

Spray Parks

The City of Rochester operates seven spray parks and three parks with spray features to help keep residents cool on the hottest days. 

All Spray parks are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven-days-a-week.  City spray parks will operate through Sept. 2nd at 8pm.

Beaches

  • Durand Eastman Beach (City of Rochester) Swimming is permitted in life-guarded area (Lot A) during open hours only: June 24 - Sept 2, 7 days a week, Noon - 6pm. During declared Cool Sweep Days/heat emergencies, hours are 11am - 7pm. 
  • Ontario Beach Park (Monroe County)

Call for Lifeguards

The City of Rochester is always seeking lifeguards for seasonal employment. Red Cross certification via lifeguard and water safety classes are available . For more information, call (585) 428-7888.
