RPD: Physical Fitness Standards

Physical Agility Description: You will be given detailed instructions at the test site for each of the exercises described below:

Push-up

Measures muscular endurance of the upper body. The hands are placed slightly wider than shoulder width apart with fingers pointing upward. Feet will be together with toes touching the floor. Starting from the up position (elbows extended), the candidate must keep the back and hips straight at all times. In the downward position, the candidate must lower their body toward the floor until the upper arm and the floor is parallel, forming a 90 degree angle at the elbows.

At no time can any body part touch the ground (face, chest, stomach or knees). Candidates then return to the up position by fully extending their arms. Any resting must occur only in the up position. The same number repeated indicates that the exercise was performed incorrectly. The score below is the total number of correct push-ups performed in one minute:

Sit-up

Measures muscular endurance of the core body. Candidates start by lying on the back, knees bent, heels flat on the floor, with the fingers laced and held behind the head. Avoid pulling on the head with the hands. The buttocks must remain on the floor with no thrusting of the hips. A partner holds the feet down firmly.

In the up position, the candidate must touch elbows to the top of the knees or elbows past the knees. In the downward position, the candidate must touch their shoulder blades to the floor. Any resting must occur only in the up position. The neck remains in the neutral position; do not pull on the head or neck. The same number repeated indicates that the exercise was performed incorrectly. The score below is the total number correct sit-ups performed in one minute:

1.5 mile run

Measures cardiovascular capacity. You must complete the required number of laps needed to run 1.5 miles. If you feel that you need to walk, walk on the farthest outside lane. Candidates cannot interrupt the run and leave the track to get water or for any other reasons. Candidates will be given the commands - Ready; set; go! Success is determined by the completion of the required number of laps in your designated time. The score below is calculated in minutes and seconds.
