Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween Safety Tips
Mayor Malik D. Evans hopes all of Rochester's children enjoy a fun and safe Halloween. For those who like to trick-or-treat, please observe these safety tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Centers for Disease Control and safekids.org:
- Trick-or-treat with an adult;
- Hold a flashlight;
- Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering;
- Cross streets at the corners and use crosswalks;
- Look both ways before crossing the street;
- Don’t look down at cell phones or text while walking;
- Always walk on sidewalks and never dart out into the street;
- Wear bright and reflective costumes;
- Ensure that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping;
- Walk and never run;
- Only visit well-lit houses;
- Never enter a home unless it belongs to a trusted adult;
- Call 9-1-1 immediately for any suspicious or unlawful activity.
"I want our children to be safe tonight and to follow common sense guidelines to ensure that they can have fun when out trick-or-treating or participating in family-friendly events," Mayor Evans said. "This is part of creating safe and vibrant neighborhoods in our city."
