How We ROC: A Look Through Our Lenses

"Photography is more than a medium for factual communication of ideas. It is a creative art." - Ansel Adams

The How We ROC exhibit is a vibrant celebration of Rochester's soul, captured through the lenses of local photographers, Rajae "Onis" Barnes-Wright and Allison McDonald. With every image, they invite you to step into the heart of the city - where diverse communities converge, stories unfold, and the pulse of Rochester beats strong. This collection isn’t just a series of photographs; it’s a poetic journey through the events and moments that define our city’s unique character and boundless energy.

Each photograph is a visual love letter to Rochester, reflecting its rich cultural tapestry and the shared experiences that bring us together. Onis and Allison’s work not only reveals the beauty in everyday moments but also embodies the City of Rochester’s unwavering commitment to equity and inclusion in the arts. Come, explore, and lose yourself in the captivating narrative of Rochester - where every image tells a story, and every story is a testament to the city’s enduring spirit.

Celebrating Rochester's Art at the City Hall Link Gallery

Established in 1981 by the New City Hall Citizens Committee, the Link Gallery provides a dynamic exhibition space for artists and craftspeople from the greater Rochester area. Featuring works from painters, printmakers, photographers, papermakers, and weavers, the gallery encourages local artists and groups from non-profits, institutions, and schools to showcase their creativity, bringing together the vibrant art and culture of our region.

With the understanding that Rochester is a city of and for the arts, the City of Rochester cherishes the visual arts, recognizing them as vital to our community’s education and culture.

The Link Gallery located on the first floor of City Hall at 30 Church St., is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and the gallery is handicapped accessible.
