Rochester Police Foundation
The Rochester Police Foundation was established in May 2012 by Rochester's business and civic leaders as an independent, not-for-profit organization to support the Rochester Police Department (RPD) in public safety and law enforcement excellence.
The Rochester Police Foundation works closely with the Chief of Police to develop and implement a strategic program to raise awareness and resources not readily available to assist RPD with:
- Community and youth outreach programs
- Equipment and training to support RPD operations
- Assistance to families of fallen officers
Among the many initiatives the Rochester Police Foundation has funded to date include:
- Purchase of personal ballistic safety shields;
- Sponsorship of gun buyback campaigns;
- Assistance with the purchase and training of new police dogs for the K-9 Unit and horses for the Mounted Patrol Unit;
- Sponsorship of numerous community outreach programs, such as Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program, Shop with a Cop, Books & Bears and other neighborhood events that bring police and citizens together in a social environment;
- Assistance with projects and events that promote anti-violence messaging, such as in the production of Front Row;
- Assistance to the family of slain RPD Officer Daryl Pierson and other RPD families during times of need.
