Mayor Evans announces launch of Crisis Intervention Services mobile-response vehicle
Mayor Malik D. Evans announced today the launch of the City’s new Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) mobile-response vehicle that will enable City staff from the Department of Recreation and Human Services Crisis Intervention Services team to respond directly to crime scenes to offer comforting care and support victims and their family members in a space that is private and safe. Additionally, the mobile response vehicle will provide a space where investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office can share vital information and answer questions.
“The Crisis Intervention Services Mobile Response Vehicle will serve as an on-scene haven where those who are thrust into the sudden confusion and emotional trauma of losing a loved one to violence can quiet their mind, collect their thoughts and learn about the services that can help them through their grief,” said Mayor Evans. “I want to thank the members of our Congressional delegation for sharing our commitment to these vulnerable families and providing the resources we need to help them begin the healing process as soon as they’re ready. Confronting the tragedy of violence with empathy and concern is moving us closer to creating a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester by inspiring hope and delivering opportunity for everyone.”
“I’m proud to have helped secure funding for Rochester’s new mobile Crisis Intervention Services Unit Mobile Response Vehicle which will play a critical role in supporting law enforcement and crisis-intervention personnel in their response to emergencies,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. “This unit will not only enhance the effectiveness of our first responders, but also deliver essential care and comfort to victims of violence and those affected by crises. This vital investment ensures that Rochester has the resources necessary to provide real support to families in their most difficult times.”
“In times of crisis, families should have the peace of mind to know there’s a safe and secure place for them to receive the support they need. The City of Rochester’s new Crisis Intervention Services Mobile Response Vehicle will be that place,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “I was proud to help secure funding for this project, and I look forward to future opportunities to partner with the City of Rochester’s ongoing efforts to deliver the resources and services people deserve.”
“The City of Rochester’s Crisis Intervention Services unit is an invaluable resource, and this funding will enhance its ability to provide care for residents during times of mental health crisis or as a support to homicide response,” U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “I commend the City of Rochester for its vision and efforts to support its residents during some of the most difficult times one could experience in their life. I’m proud to have helped secure funding for this unit and will keep fighting to ensure all communities in New York have the mental health resources they need.”
The seven-passenger CIS Mobile-Response Vehicle features a powered wheelchair lift, compact bathroom, microwave and mini-fridge, awning, storage space, a table and comfortable seating and chairs in a welcoming atmosphere for members of the Homicide Response Team to foster relationships with families as they journey through grief and loss for weeks and months to come.
The mobile unit was purchased with funds from the Congressionally Directed Spendingpackage secured by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer; Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Rep. Joseph Morelle.
