Elevator and Conveyance Certification

The City runs a certification process to ensure elevators, escalators, and other related equipment are properly maintained. 

Requirements for certification

  • Inspections must be performed and passed at least every 6 months.
  • An annual test must be performed and passed at least every year. 
  • Some conveyance types require an additional test performed and passed every 5 years.

Submit inspection results, tests, and records of repairs to the City

Building owners or designated contacts, inspectors, and mechanics must send the following to conveyances@cityofrochester.gov. Include the conveyance number (CONV-####).  

  • Inspection reports and test results (within 7 days of being performed) 
  • Notification when a conveyance is taken out of service or put back into service
  • Notification of work performed on any conveyance, or any repairs made that address violations
  • Contact information changes
  • Extension requests for conditional certification

If you encounter issues or do not see information about the conveyances you own or manage, please complete the online form and allow 5 business days for staff to follow up with you via email.     

Conveyance customer service request

If you have not provided your email address, and you own or maintain a building with a conveyance, you must register your email so that staff know which conveyances to link to your account.
