The City of Rochester will conduct a public meeting on designs for a potential Beach House and an update to the Master Plan for the beach Durand Eastman Park.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Camp Eastman Kusak Lodge, located at 21 Camp Eastman Way. Participants can also join virtually via Zoom using the following link: https://cityofrochester.zoom.us/j/84968978505 (Meeting ID: 849 6897 8505, Passcode: 679064).

The meeting is an opportunity for citizens to view beach house design concepts and provide input on usage, activities and desired amenities and improvements to aid in updating the beach’s Master Plan. Last updated in 2007, the updated Master Plan will cover the entire beach area, and will address parking facilities, picnic shelter and grill locations, crosswalk and pedestrian improvements, and site programming options. The project also includes site improvements to address drainage, erosion and the addition of some minor site amenities.

Durand Eastman Park is approximately 5 miles northeast of downtown Rochester on the shores of Lake Ontario. The land was sold to the City by Dr. Henry Durand and George Eastman and the park was formally dedicated in 1909. Construction of a public beach house was completed in 1919, where it served citizens until 1949, when rising water levels in Lake Ontario forced its closure.

Following the meeting, input will also be accepted online through Wednesday, Aug. 7. For more information, including project background, updates and presentation materials, please click the button below.
