Historical Walking Tour- Beyond Flour and Flowers: Industry in Rochester

Rochester’s logo, a blue lilac combined with a water wheel, tells of the city’s industrial history. Both the logo and the nicknames it features—Flour City and Flower City—evoke the two major industries that fueled the city’s early development. However, a myriad of other—and perhaps lesser-known—local industries and inventions helped put Rochester on the map. Meet on the north side of the Rundel Memorial Building to explore Rochester’s industrial history on this 1.2-mile walking tour.

In case of inclement weather, the tour may be canceled.

How to Start a Block Club

Starting a Block Club can significantly enhance your neighborhood by fostering strong community bonds and increasing safety.

Block Clubs can help to create a support network where neighbors can collaborate on local projects, address common issues, and advocate for improvements. A block club also provides a unified group to work with local government and access resources, ultimately making your neighborhood a more connected, secure, and vibrant place to live.

Mental Health Services at R-Centers

This week, the City of Rochester is offering a series of walk-in counseling sessions with trained therapists at R-Centers where community members who have been impacted by recent violence can begin receiving the support they need.

These sessions are free for City residents, and counselors will also be able to connect attendees with additional, longer-term support if needed.
