Copies of Accident reports are provided in person to involved parties for a $0.25 cents per copied page fee. Involved parties may also obtain a copy online at https://buycrash.lexisnexisrisk.com/search/ .*NOTE: Do not use www in the address bar). Insurance companies may also obtain copies of accident reports for a fee at the above web address. Others seeking copies of accident reports must file a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request online at www.cityofrochester.gov/FOIL, in person at Accident Records at the City Public Safety Building.
To receive a Criminal History Check, you must complete an application in person and present two forms of identification. The first is an official photo ID, which includes a driver license, learner permit, non-driver photo ID card or passport. The second form of ID is your social security card. There is a $25 fee payable by cash, credit card or money order payable to the City Treasurer. Background checks will be mailed within seven-10 business days.
Criminal History Check applicants residing out of state require a fingerprint card from your local police department. A notarized photo copy of your driver license, learner permit, non-driver photo ID card or passport, and social security card, are also required. Call (585) 428-7493 for general inquiries.
Fingerprinting services are available Monday through Friday, 1 PM to 3 PM. If you have fingerprint cards, please bring them with you, along an official photo ID, which includes a driver's license, learner permit, non-driver photo ID card or passport. The Rochester Police Department (RPD) can provide the FBI FD-258 applicant fingerprint form if needed. There is a $25 processing fee payable by cash, credit card or money order payable to the City Treasurer. Should you be unaware of the type of fingerprint card to use, please refer back to the employer or licensing agency for which you are obtaining fingerprints.
All City residents who want to apply for a pistol permit must be fingerprinted by the RPD. *Please be advised that fingerprints from IndentoGo will not be accepted by the Monroe County Clerk. You may obtain a copy of the City Resident Pistol Permit Application at www.monroecounty.gov. Be sure to print the application as double-sided, as the application must be completely filled out and submitted to the Monroe County Clerk's Office prior to being fingerprinted by the RPD. You must bring a copy of paid pistol permit application receipt from the Monroe County Clerk's Office to your fingerprinting appointment. The fingerprinting processing fee is $125, payable by cash, credit card or money order payable to the City Treasurer. Personal checks are not accepted.*To schedule an appointment with the Monroe County Clerk's Office to submit an application go to www.monroecounty.gov or call (585) 753-1642. To schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted, call our 24-hour phone line at (585) 428-6702. Please bring the completed Pistol Permit Application, a NYS Driver License, learner permit, non-driver photo ID card or passport, along with the fee of $125, to your appointment. *Please note: If you are not on time for your appointment or if your application is not complete, you will have to reschedule your fingerprinting appointment.
Crime reports are only provided to the victim of a crime or the reporting person. *Note: Identification is required to obtain a copy, along with a possible fee of $0.25 cents per copied page. If you would like to obtain a copy of a crime report and you are not the victim or reporting person, you must complete a FOIL request.
