Rochester’s South Avenue and Elmwood Avenue Improvement Project and the State Street Reconstruction Project won engineering excellence awards at the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC) 8th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in New York City onSaturday, April 5, 2025.

LaBella Associates, D.P.C. won a Platinum award in the transportation category for the State Street Reconstruction Project, which included street reconstruction and minor pavement widening of State Street from Basin Street to the Inner Loop. Improvements also included curb modifications and bump outs at intersections, new sidewalks, driveway aprons, lighting, drainage basins, pavement markings, signing, landscape treatments, and traffic signal improvements.

Erdman, Anthony and Associates, Inc. won a Gold award in the transportation category for the South Avenue and Elmwood Avenue Reconstruction Project, which included reconstruction of South and Elmwood Avenues and installing a new cycle track along portions of both roads. The multi-year project included full-depth pavement reconstruction, new sidewalks, traffic signals, pavement markings, mid-block pedestrian crossing enhancements, hydrants, lighting and signage. Also installed was a hydrodynamic separator that removes sediment from stormwater runoff using force of gravity.

“Everyone — residents and visitors alike — deserves to be safe when travelling in our community, whether they’re driving, walking or biking,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “These projects align perfectly with our goals to upgrade Rochester’s transportation infrastructure to be multimodal, and these awards are a testament to our commitment to making Rochester the best city it can be. I’d like to thank the City’s engineers and the staff at LaBella Associates and Erdman, Anthony, and Associates, and everyone involved in the success of these projects for their hard work in supporting our vision and mission to make moving about in Rochester safer, more inclusive, and more enjoyable.”
