Environmental Education Programs

From the Genesee River Gorge and its breathtaking cataracts, to the hundreds of acres of parkland, to the lakefront where the mighty Genesee reaches Lake Ontario, we have very real nature right in the midst of our city. Rochester's residents share this environment with an astounding array of plants and animals-- from rabbits and bald eagles to the earthworms under our feet--much of which exists hidden from city residents because most of us don't know where or how to look for it!

Community Pet Support and Resources

Pet owner support resources and programs

We are frequently contacted by citizens who love their pets but who may be struggling with financial means to provide for their companions or others who may need access to resources or services to address behavioral concerns.  Please refer to the following list of local and national resources in your search for financial assistance or services that support the human-animal bond and keep pets with their families.

Eastman Trail - Phase I

About the project

The City of Rochester has designed a new trail – the Eastman Trail. The Eastman Trail presents a unique opportunity to establish significant connections to the larger regional trail system. This trail is the first phase of an east/west connection between the City’s Genesee Riverway Trail at Kings Landing and the State’s Route 390 Trail in the Town of Greece. Eventually the trail could extend further west through the Town of Greece, utilizing the City owned former canal corridor, crossing Long Pond Road and connecting to the Erie Canalway Trail.

24 & 32 York Street Environmental Cleanup

Introduction

24 York Street and 32 York Street are two adjacent properties that were acquired by the City on September 12, 2019 after completing environmental due diligence on both parcels. The City of Rochester was awarded a Brownfield Cleanup Grant under the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for the cleanup of the Site. In addition to the funding from the USEPA, this project is also funded by the City.

Downtown Rochester bustles with energy and excitement — making it a great place to work, live and visit. Our skyline extends more than 400 feet into the air, creating a true metropolitan ambiance for more than 50,000 workers and almost 4,000 residents.
