Maplewood Park Trail Improvements
Project background
Located in the northwest quadrant of the city, Maplewood Park is one of two original parks laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted to highlight the Genesee River. The park contains the last unpaved section of the scenic Genesee Riverway Trail (GRT), a 24 mile long, multi-use trail for walking, running, and bicycling.
Project objectives
The City of Rochester is presently working with a consultant team to design trail improvements to:
- Modernize and rehabilitate the unpaved portion of the GRT;
- Utilize the Route 104 pedestrian bridge to provide an alternative trail route to the Veteran’s Bridge underpass; and,
- Provide a fully accessible connection between Lower Falls Park and the Maplewood Rose Garden. Presently, a large staircase is the sole obstacle to ADA compliance on this section of the trail.
