The Rochester Living Wage Law

Background

The Rochester Living Wage Ordinance, Ordinance No. 2001-36, was adopted in 2001 by a unanimous vote of City Council with the support of the Mayor. It set minimum wage rates for employees of companies entering into contracts for services with the City of Rochester. It applies to contracts of $50,000 or more. Certain contracts are exempt, as are certain types of employees. The basis for the initial wage rates was the Federal Poverty Guideline-the wage was set so that a full-time employee with a family of four would not earn below the poverty level.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories

The Office of Energy and Sustainability updated the City’s municipal and community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories for 2019. The goal of the inventory update was to measure progress towards achieving emissions reduction goals set previously and to identify key sources of GHG emissions. The GHG inventories will be used to develop high-impact climate change mitigation strategies for the future.

Wildlife

Animal Services Officers (ASOs) are primarily empowered to address concerns related to companion animals. However, ASOs may respond to calls within city limits regarding wildlife causing an immediate public safety hazard or injured wildlife when species-specific services are available and outweigh the stress of captivity.
