Over 2,100 City-owned vacant lots are maintained by City crews from the Department of Environmental Services. Between May and September, vacant lots are cleaned by cutting tall grass and removing debris. Adjacent sidewalks and curb lanes are swept clean.

The City of Rochester is proud to supply its residents with clean, high-quality water. The Bureau of Water annually produces a Water Quality Report that provides residents with information on the quality of drinking water, news on the water system, details on the source of drinking water, and its treatment and test results.
As required by New York State law since 1919, the City Historian is responsible for preserving and interpreting the city’s past. Duties fall into four categories: 1) research and writing, 2) teaching and public presentations, 3) historical preservation (documents, artifacts, and buildings), and 4) organization, advocacy, and tourism promotion.
